Why do people seek therapy?

People come into therapy for a variety of reasons. Some need to respond to unexpected changes in their lives, while others seek self-exploration and personal growth. Therapy can provide support, problem-solving skills, and developing healthy ways of coping for issues such as depression, anxiety, lack of confidence, relationship troubles, unresolved childhood issues, bereavement, stress management, body image issues. People seeking psychotherapy are willing to take responsibility for their actions, work towards self-change and create greater awareness in their lives.

What benefits can I expect from therapy?

Some clients come to therapy with specific goals in mind, while others feel a bit “lost”, overwhelmed, or struggle to find goals. Jennifer can help you to break things down and establish attainable goals. Once goals are established, you and Jennifer will work together to conquer them. You can expect to feel relief from being able to talk about your issues in a safe and non-judgemental environment.

How long will I be in counseling?

Some issues can be dealt with in a brief period of time, but this is not always the case. There is no magic number or formula to determine how long it may take. During your initial session, you and your therapist will discuss your goals. You will receive the most benefit from counseling if you come weekly initially and then reduce sessions as goals are being met and you are feeling better. Once goals are met, some clients choose to come in periodically for a “tune up” as counseling can help people stay accountable.
